One of the things I love about Ubud is its central location. It’s a great starting point for plenty of day trips.

Our favorite? Waterfalls.

I love riding on our motorbike, seeing local markets and rice fields, taking a breathtaking hike, and ending up at a refreshing waterfall.

Staying in this charming town? Here are the most beautiful waterfalls near Ubud.

Waterfalls Near Ubud (Less than 30 mins)

1. Kanto Lampo Waterfall

I gave in to this stunning photo!

Natural Pool at Kanto Lampo Waterfall

Kanto Lampo Waterfall bears a resemblance to the cascading appearance of Bali’s popular rice paddies.

Water plunges from a 15-meter drop onto several rocky layers, creating a stunning waterfall backdrop.

After descending about 100 steps, you can see Hindu carvings on the rocks lining the falls.

You’ll soon come across the line to the main photo spot. Depending on the time of day, the line can be quite long, but the result is a stunning shot. Skilled local photographers are available for hire on a tip basis.

Initially, we skipped this line and went left to a large natural pool (third photo). It’s amazing how this refreshing pool is empty while everyone else is at the main spot.

We also took a hike to the Goa Tan Hana Cave and saw the breathtaking Kanto Lampo Falls without the crowd (third photo).

Afterward, we went back and lined up for the falls. Even if you don’t get the perfect photo, climbing the falls and feeling the strong water fall on you makes waiting in line worth it!

Travel time from Ubud: 28 minutes

2. Sumampan Waterfall

Sumampan Waterfall cascading over a rocky ledge into a calm, forested pool surrounded by green vegetation.
What a view!

Going to the Sumampan Waterfall takes a bit of strength and endurance. There are about 50 steep steps and you’ll have to cross a river to get to the main waterfall.

But after 10 minutes, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view: a cool, shallow river, a misty waterfall, and a peaceful jungle-like atmosphere.

eep your eyes open for the Balinese stone carvings scattered around – they can be found in unexpected places and some might even bring a smile to your face!

Opening hours: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Travel time from Ubud: 21 minutes
Entrance Fee: 20,000 IDR

3. Tegenungan Waterfall

Majestic Tegenungan Waterfall in lush tropical jungle.
What a paradise!

As one of the most visited waterfalls in Bali, the Tegenungan surely lives up to the hype. Some people might find it too touristy and crowded, but I think the waterfall itself is still charming.

It’s very powerful and tall, standing over a deep pool by more than 15 meters. The thick jungle and rocky cairns surrounding it add to the mystical feel of the place.

My best advice is to visit in the early morning during the dry season to avoid crowds and muddy water.

Opening hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Travel time from Ubud: 21 minutes
Entrance Fee: 20,000 IDR

4. Goa Rang Reng Waterfall

Goa Rang Reng waterfall flowing over smooth rocks surrounded by greenery in a tropical forest.
What a beautiful rock formation

Goa Rang Reng is full of surprises. It may not have the tall drop and steep rock formations that other waterfalls have, but the powerful current, the hidden swing, and the mysterious caves are enough to take the experience to another level.

I would recommend hiring a local guide who can lead you to the best (and safest!) spots and explain the intricate carvings and statues. The magic of this place will make you want to stay for hours.

Opening hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Travel time from Ubud: 28 minutes

A secret garden

The Manuaba Waterfall deserves at least half a day from your itinerary. It’s one of the waterfalls near Ubud that you can reach in under 20 minutes. Do this in the morning and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy Ubud at night!

Some people call it the “2-in-1” waterfall because there are two (small and large) waterfalls to see in a 30-minute hike. The trail is enjoyable as it passes through a rice field, a river, and a green forest.

After swimming in the second waterfall, you can visit the simple warung (local restaurant) and enjoy a well-deserved drink before hiking back.

Sekumpul, Bali’s highest waterfall

Expect to get your heart pumping on your way to Bali’s biggest waterfall, Sekumpul. But this hike is a small price for the 80-meter-high waterfalls surrounded by forest.

A mesmerizing cascade of multiple tiers spilling down a gorge makes this one of the most stunning waterfalls around Ubud.

These waterfalls (there are three in the same area!) require at least a half-day trip. I recommend starting your trek before sunrise to avoid the crowds.

Stunning Nungnung Waterfall surrounded by vibrant greenery.
Nungnung waterfall, one of the strongest waterfalls in Bali

Nungnung Waterfall has an impressive drop of approximately 50 meters, making it one of the highest and strongest waterfalls in Bali.

Its height requires climbing around 500 steps to reach the base and another 500 to return, so it may not be for those not up for a challenge.

However, the breathtaking view makes the effort worthwhile. Take your time with it and enjoy the cool mist from the powerful waterfall after an intense trek.

Banyumala Twin Waterfalls is breathtaking in many ways.

We started with a steep 20-minute hike. While it was easy going down, the climb back up required some effort.

However, the spectacular view makes it all worth it! Ending our Munduk day trip with this waterfall left us in awe of its water converging into two large flows.

There are also terraced rocks beside the pools where you can enjoy the gentle water flowing around you.

We also found a small waterfall opposite the falls (turn right from the entrance) and had it all to ourselves!

Located in Northern Bali, a more mountainous region, the water is cooler but still suitable for a swim. Mat loves it! Even during peak hours (around noon), the water remains clear and very refreshing.

The trail to Yeh Bulan Waterfall exudes a secret garden atmosphere you’ll want to capture with your eyes or camera.

Bamboo rails and stalks line the stairway, leading you to a shallow river and the soft waterfall pouring over it.

Campuhan Antapan Waterfall is perhaps the most accessible waterfall on this list.

It only requires climbing around 20 steps, and you can reach the main waterfall from the entrance in just under 5 minutes.

What’s interesting about this waterfall is that the water flows down in a unique triangle shape. The lagoon is easily accessible due to the paved steps around it.

This waterfall near Ubud is not known to many tourists so you can enjoy having a private spot all to yourself.

I recommend visiting during the rainy season when the surrounding forest is at its lushest green.
